History
The generations of people who have worshiped at Windy Gap met in fruit groves, in several schoolhouses and a shed that was built on the current location and finally a church building.
The first church building was erected in 1846 and Windy Gap was organized as a Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1855. The church building was destroyed by a fire in 1859 and the building was replaced by the year 1887. In 1983 a social hall, classrooms, a library and pastor’s office were added.
The church continued to undergo some major renovations and restoration in 1999 with the help of proceeds from coal mining activity in our area. The most recent updates in 2015 have been accomplished due to the gas drilling in this region. God has always provided through external and internal ways to keep a visible church in this community we all love.
We have church records dating back to the late 1800’s and are able to see and read how God’s hand has been guiding and protecting His church in West Finley. The mission of Windy Gap has not changed over the years. We find comfort in the fact that there have been folks preaching, teaching and raising up each new generation to know and love our God and Savior. We have continued the mission of Jesus Christ to share the Good News of the gospel with our family, friends, and neighbors. To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen
